Types of slabs we pour
We handle garage floor slabs (typically 4-6 inches thick with wire mesh or rebar), shed and outbuilding pads (4 inches on compacted gravel base), workshop floors (often with a smooth trowel finish for easy cleanup), equipment pads for HVAC units and generators, and sport court bases. Each type has different thickness, reinforcement, and finish requirements. we spec it correctly for what's going on top of it.
Why thickness and base prep matter
A slab is only as good as what's underneath it. We excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a gravel sub-base (typically 4-6 inches of crushed stone), and ensure proper drainage away from the slab. The concrete thickness depends on the load. a basic shed pad at 4 inches is different from a garage floor that needs to hold vehicles at 5-6 inches with rebar on 18-inch centers. Skipping these steps is how you end up with cracked, sunken concrete in 2-3 years.
Slab pricing
Most residential slabs in the Lake Norman area run between $6 and $10 per square foot for standard 4-inch thickness with basic finish. Thicker slabs with heavier reinforcement cost more. A typical 2-car garage slab (roughly 400-600 square feet) runs between $3,000 and $6,000. We include everything in the quote. excavation, base prep, forming, pour, and finish.
