Walkway design and layout
Standard residential walkways are 3-4 feet wide (wide enough for two people to walk side by side) and 4 inches thick on a compacted gravel base. We set proper slope for drainage. water should run off the surface, not pool on it. Expansion joints are placed at regular intervals and where the walkway meets other structures to prevent cracking. Curves, steps, and transitions to patios or driveways are all part of what we plan during the site visit.
Finish options
Broom finish is the standard for walkways. it's affordable, durable, and provides good traction when wet. Stamped finishes can match your driveway or patio for a cohesive look across your property. Exposed aggregate works well for a natural, textured appearance. We can also do bordered walkways with a smooth center and broom-finish edges, or colored concrete to complement your home's exterior.
Pricing and timeline
Sidewalks and walkways typically run $8 to $14 per square foot depending on width, finish, and site conditions. A 40-foot walkway from driveway to front door usually costs between $1,200 and $2,400. Most walkway projects are completed in a single day with the concrete ready for foot traffic in 24-48 hours.
Sidewalks alongside larger residential concrete work
Most of the sidewalks we pour are part of a bigger residential project. For full driveway replacements or new pours, see our driveways page. For outdoor living surfaces beyond a walkway, see our patios and stamped concrete pages.
