What goes into a concrete driveway
Every driveway we pour starts with proper site prep. grading the base, compacting the sub-grade, and setting forms to the right dimensions and slope for drainage. We use 4,000 PSI ready-mix concrete with fiber mesh or rebar reinforcement depending on the load requirements. Control joints are cut at the right intervals to manage cracking, and the surface gets your choice of finish. broom, stamped, exposed aggregate, or smooth trowel. The whole process typically takes 1-2 days for the pour, plus 7 days of curing before you drive on it.
What affects the price
Driveway pricing depends on square footage, thickness (standard is 4 inches, heavy vehicles may need 5-6), the finish you choose, and site conditions. Tear-out of an existing driveway, tree root removal, or significant grading add to the cost. We give you a detailed written quote that breaks all of this down so there are no surprises. Most residential driveways in the Lake Norman area run between $4,000 and $12,000 depending on size and finish.
Why concrete over asphalt or pavers
Concrete lasts 30+ years with minimal maintenance. Asphalt needs resealing every 2-3 years and typically lasts 15-20 years. Pavers look great but shift and settle over time, and weeds grow between the joints. Concrete gives you the best combination of durability, appearance, and long-term value. especially in North Carolina where temperature swings stress pavement surfaces.
